The term "Domestic Release" actually refers to the US and Canada. So it's 1500 theaters in North America. Also there's a chance that theater owners will show the prints in multiple theaters, meaning that there will be 1500 prints out there but it may be shown in more than 1500 theaters. This is common practice with blockbuster films but we'll have to see how Dogma plays out.
