As a Jew myself I have wondered and asked questions on this site about how Dogma adresses Judaism and about this VERY situation that because some people consider Dogma an anti-Catholic/anti-Christianity movie they would make naturally anti-semetic accusations about some Jewish cabal bankrolling it to completely wipe any Christian values away from anyone who has them left while we keep controlling the banks and getting good God-fearing Christians fired and making sure Israel has enough nukes to bomb the good ol' USA off the map. You have to realize that the people writing those letters are ignorant fools who have probably been taught that Jews killed Christ. I asked Kevin (he didn't answer) about if he acknowledges or mentions Jesus's judaism and Jewish upbringing or jewish religous ideas in the movie, since I refuse to read the script or spoilers I don't know if he does. Perhaps he should. Maybe it isn't an important element in the story, since the movie is about Angels trying to get back into Heaven, but since Jesus's family is mentioned in the story by way of Linda Fiorentino's character and Rufus being an apostle, a follower of Jesus who probably adressed him as "Rabbi" I think it could be part of the movie and help denounce anti-semitism. Anyway, these people writing these letters that bash Kevin and judaism sadden me and piss me off and make me worry for the future, but I just don't know what to do about it. i wish i had an answer that could make you feel better, I wish someone had an answer that would make ME feel better.
: I've been reading the hate letters at the Dogma site. What struck me as really really odd (besides the fact that people still think Disney is to blame, and if they wanna cancel their vacations fine!) is that there seems to be a lot of Jew bashing. It's one thing to slander somebody, but to slander somebody (Kevin) then say you are rightous in defending tolerance and insult my people (the Jews) is just plain fucked up. I would like to hear some commentary on these letters by Kevin or any VA staff. Also if Ming could post some positive letters that would be great.
