Well, after reading all about peoples opinions on J&SB #4, and reading Kevins posts and Hawkboys posts I just have to say that I have no comment. Lets all try to get over it. I picked up a copy of Daredevil "Visionaires" the Trade Paperback. It is wonderful. I have all the individual books but this is something that no View Askew fan should be without. Ben's Introduction is written so well, the book is put together so nicely, and Kevins Afterword is also great reading. Everytime I read it, (4 times now-I have a lot of free time now) I notice something new, some little detail or something in the words and art that makes me realize what a fun book it is. Also I admire Kevin lifting up old Bubblehead - Mysterio and showing how truly evil he could be, and also showing how truly human "super heroes" can be. Great job. The story is wonderful, the art by Quesada and Palmiotti is wonderful and it is altogether a great comic collection.
Now some ?'s on some View Askew things.
1. On board 101 I responded to someone who had noticed a nasty anti-semetic strain in the Hate-Mail being recieved in response to Dogma. It depressed and scared him and it does the same to me. I told him I had asked Kevin about if he adresses Jesus's Judaism, and his Jewish background and upbringing and family in the movie. Since he has never answered I ask again. Are these issues adressed? I know they might have nothing to do with the story since it concerns two Angels trying to get back into Heaven, but still through Rufus and Bethany, Jesus's life is examined and you can't look at the life of Jesus without looking at his role in Judaism. Rufus probably adressed Jesus as Rabbi and Jesus was brough up Jewish. Is this a part of the movie? I won't read the script or look at spoilers so I don't know. The ignorant assholes accusing some secret Jewish cabal of funding Dogma as a way to undermine good Christian values like the Crusades and the Inquisition need to be adressed.
2. Kevin, do you plan on writing anything for the stage?
3. What sort of books did you look to to help and inspire "Dogma"? I know you have read the Apocrypha, but what else? Did you look at the comic series "Dawn" or Tony Kushners plays "Angels in America"?
4. What do you think of the new team of Avengers? Any intrest in writng for them? What about the Thunderbolts?
5. Who do you like for the National Championship in College Football this year? I'm an Alabama alumni myself, so Roll Tide!
6. What do you like to see as a director in an actor's performance?
7. About Visionaries-Could you or someone name everyone in the pew you are sitting in in the Funeral scene? I didn't recognize everyone including others since a lot of them were heroes out of costume. Rest assured I did recognize some. Also, is the big blond guy sitting in front of the Black Panthers advisor and next to Natasha, Steve Rogers aka Captain America (my favorite hero)?
8. Finally, how is your life? Are things going well? How is Harley?
Also, if whoever is in St. Louis who read about my production of "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" at the Meremac Theatre on one of the past boards reads this, who said they planned on coming to the show, I hope you did and I hope you and your friends enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun doing it.
Last but not least. A few months back I visited the Stash and picked up some stuff. For a fan from St. Louis on his first trip to Jersey it was a thrill. I especially was lucky to meet Jason Mewes and Walt Flanagan who were really nice and cool to me and signed my cover of Clerks #1. I would like to thank them for being so good to me. I have done it here on the board before, and I know it might be pissing some people off, I just want them both to know I really appreciated it. Kevin you have a hell of a store. Keep up the good work. Can't wait for Dogma. Thank you.
Sincerely, Mr.Combat-matthew saxe.
