It's AIDS... Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. The S is part of the acronym, it's not simply a way of pluralizing it or giving it possession of something.
And on slight tangent (no, there's nothing in the post about this, but it's so INSANELY common), it's the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, so calling it the "HIV virus" is -- you got it! -- redundant! And don't get me started on "ATM machines" or...
