To be honest, I don't have any rock t-shirts (except a couple that I acquired at concerts) these days as I get old and pitiful. However, I always thought of it as part of celebrating your love of the band, not as a matter of information. Like if you lectured people on your love of the band while you stood in line.

This seems like an exceptionally esoteric and kind of lame rule of coolness, imho. Not to mention the fact that going to an Aerosmith concert seems a little dorky to me...
