I'm not sure how it works in your island republic, but I believe that for the most part status as a tax deduction is endangered as soon as you receive something in return. So paying PBS $500K for a tote bag would be tax-deductible because it's just a token, and not really worth what you are contributing. But if you only gave them fifty cents, and they sent you the Dr. Who Collector's Plate anyway, then you couldn't right it off because the Dr. Who merchandise is worth...oh...well, you could probably still write that one off, but if they gave you something valuable you'd have trouble.

The pre-screener tickets, and any swag they choose to lay on us, would be worth FAR more than the meager sum being charged, so it would be hard to justify it as a donation by YOU, while VA is making a major contribution with little return...unless you count the unbridled derision of a few people who need to replace large sticks with smaller, hopefully lubricated sticks.

I am, however, accepting donations of $50 to $100, and in return you will receive the nearly completely valueless GKH T-shirt.
