: If you are ever going to read the screenplay for a movie, do it after you've seen the movie at least twice (so you can see what you missed the first time). If you have read the screenplay prematurely, the first thing you are going to do once you've actually seen the movie is go through the compare/contrast bit. That just fucks with the whole experience. Now I'm upset that I heard about the Fat Albert bit on the board because I was really looking forward to it, and I haven't even read the scene. Personally, unless you are doing some sort of research for your own education as to how screenplays are written and structured, I wouldn't recommend reading the screenplay at all. If it was supposed to be read, it would have been a novel first. Like kids and their Christmas presents( or in my case the shit Hannukah Harry leaves), people just can't contain themselves. Show some will power you pansy-assed pushovers, you'll thank yourself for not ruining the experience.

Wish I had read this before I came here. Mind you I fall in the catagory of being in screenwriting class at the moment and thought of reading Dogma (if indeed it was the real one) to see a master jedi of dialogue at work. Needless to say, I'm at the point were after seeing the ads on the tele, the movie looked better in my head (if that's at all possible). I've certainly learned my lesson. Right now, I'll stick with the Indiana Jones script that will never be filmed. :) Thanks Ethan, even if I'm late.
