I was fortunate enough to go to the 'Dogma' screening in Atlanta last night.
Me and about 400 of my closest friends stood anxiously in line waiting to cram into a tiny theatre. After many of us realized that no protesters showed up the mood became very relaxed. Then we were herded into the theatre. After the giveaways and the few trailers that were shown the theatre went black and you could feel the excitement rising. Then the disclaimer hit. And joy was felt by all.
I won't go play by play through the movie, cause that would be senseless.
I must say that I have been patiently waiting for the release since I heard production had started. I read the script as soon as I could and after that I could'nt wait for the movie to hit my local theatre. This film has to be Kevin's best work to date. And Mewes was awesome in the film, can we say Oscar; okay maybe not but the academy wouldn't know a good flick if it fell out of the sky like 'big tittie women'.
Okay time to talk about the protesters. To waste valuable oxegyen by protesting and writing letters about this film is ludicrous. First don't fomulate an opinion without seeing this film is rediculous. Shouldn't they be worrying about 12 year olds killing people and homelessness instead of fearing movies. Trust me if going to heaven or hell is based on either a.) making this film or b.) seeing this movie then I was already on the guest list for hell years ago. This film was both uplifting and funny. For two hours (3 if you include the wait in line) 400 people did not want to cause harm to anybody, we just wanted to have a good time. We did not leave the theatre and go burn down churchs or other places of worship. So obviously this film is not all that bad.
So hats off to Lions Gate; for releasing this for all humanity to enjoy, Kevin and Scott; for being insperation to many, Mewes for making us laugh as always, Claire, Alan, Chris, Ben, and Matt for giving outstanding performances, Brian, Jeff and Jason for giving us Trilogy fans a nice fuzzy feeling when they appeared on screen. And everyone else who had some part in the production, I'm sure that their are many more that I just forgot.
Now just to anxiously wait for the film to open friday so that I can spend my paycheck seeing this flick and to tell others about it and hopefully see it crack the top five for opening weekend (I mean come on Pokemon, what the hell is that thing a cat, dog, gopher???) Then to wait for the directors cut.
