: : Religion has become an obsession in this country seriously hindering freedom.

: : >>> Religion doesn't hinder freedom. Our ability to practice whatever religion we want IS one of our freedoms. Much the same way you're free to spout off on how "absurd" religion is, we're allowed to wallow in our ignorance and believe in a higher power.

: #Oh really, have you heard of the following, the Crusades, the Inquisition, papal infallibility, the caste system in India, serfdom in Russia, slavery in the U.S., missionaries in the congo, Columbus, Cortez, WWI, WWII, the tutsi slaughter in Rwanda, the killing of muslims in Serbia, the killing of Shite muslims in Iraq, the killing of sunni muslims in Iran...

$$$$$ Ok, lets look at what you said again. "Religion has become an obsession in this country seriously hindering freedom." Do you see the words "THIS country" in there too?? Looking back at all of your points..... besides slavery which of these involve THIS country?? And calling slavery a religion based hindering of freedom is a bit of a stretch.

: : Medical science is making breakthroughs everyday which are being stifled by religous groups who subscribe to outdated notions of morality and collective responsibility.

: #Fetal tissue has been shown to help in the research of Alzheimers, heart disease and aging in general.

$$$ Yes, and while religios groups can bitch and moan about how its wrong, the research still goes on. We have thr freedom of speech allowing groups to protest and stop things they feel are wrong, for whatever reason. These people are using their religious beliefs as the basis for their objection. SO what??
