Dear Kevin,
I recently saw "Dogma" at a free screening at my school (Tulane University), and I had a few angel questions for you. I'm a researcher on angel lore, and my study came up with a few differences from your movie.
Example: Azrael is considered by most texts to be the angel of death, though there have been many attributed with that job, from Michael to Leviathan. What made you choose the Norse god of mischief, Loki? And why name Azrael as a fallen angel? I'd love to know some of the sources for your research.
Don't worry, my comments aren't all questions. I thought your use of Metatron (a personal favorite) was wonderful. Your reference to Bartleby as a Watcher, or Nephilim, was great to me, like an angel lore inside joke. The refernce to the "Son of the Morning Star" that Loki makes sent a chill up my spine, and I give you major kudos for that. Needless to say, I loved the film. It was wonderful and satirical and irreverent and reverent, somehow all at the same time. I'm a Catholic, but I have no problem at all with anything you did in the movie. I wish we all didn't take things so seriously, sometimes. Anyway, thanks for your time, and I'd love to get an answer from you on my questions. If not, just know that there's someone out there who not only appreciated a very good film, but all the research that must have gone into it.
Sincerely,
H.Breo
