Kev said Let there be average joes at my screening... and it was good.

Just wanted to rant about the experience at the LA screening last night.
I showed up around 4:30 while they were still laying carpet and lighting bulbs. Where were all you board freaks? I guess I was trying to relive my star wars pseudo-sneak-preview experience (waiting waiting waiting in line on a cold hard sidewalk). Killed a lot of time and somehow became 4th in line (3 poor souls had to suck my second hand) (sorry guys).

Plastic people started showing up in dark clothes, and got in the "real" will call line.
(I just mention it because I especially disturbed by one couple that was ushered from our freak line to the beautiful people line. The guy smiled when somebody in our line said something funny, and the ugly anorexic blond's frown didn't even twitch. I'm sooooo unimpressed with LA culture.)
It was funny how obviously different we were. In t-shirts and sandals and whatever. In full color. (... I guess you had to be there.)

Anyway, we were often reminded that they'd overbooked and we probably wouldn't get in (so, could we please just stay out of sight around the corner, please). I was surprised that nobody ever checked my name against a list of any kind. Hmmm.

Anyway, they gave us magic red tickets that said we were viewAskew winners, and we were welcome at the screener and after party. After Party?!?!?! The tickets were quickly taken back. No party for us. Maybe somebody noticed our style and manner (not enough leather. Too many honest smiles.).

Soon, the stars started showing, around the corner, and it hit me that this was an LA premiere. Which I'd never really seen before, much less stood around in.
Word came in that 5 of us might get in. which sucked for johnboy (being number 6. Be seeing you.) (a Prisoner reference that).
Then they took 10 of us! (which means that some people still got left out? I'm sure there more than ten standing in our giddy oddity line. Hmm.)

So we got to scurry across the red carpet and slip inside. Strolled right past edward norton. He looked strangely pale, but cool. I love some of the movies he's been in, so I got a big giddy grin. Starstruck.
We were given seats in the second row, which actually worked out pretty sweet for the movie.
Spotted jason lee looking damn cool and personable. Then Kevin and Scott maneuvering down the aisle to introduce the film.

A lion's gate guy spoke first, mentioning their recent swell offerings, and thanking a few people.
Then Mister Smith jumped on the mike and laid some funk on us.
Actually he looked pretty tired. But he slung some pretty funny jokes.
Mentioned that he'd tried to get us the same hanger at santa monica airport that had been used for the 007 premeire a few days back, but he heard denise richards had gotten smashed and puked her guts out in the bathroom. And they were still cleaning it up.
He also mentioned something like "glad to share this movie with you soullessss LA folk." Which got a big laugh (I guess everyone thought they were the exception. Hmm.).
And he said some sweet stuff about his wife. cool.
I don't remember Silent Scott saying anything (scene stealer).

Then the movie. Awesome.

Then we split. Noticed a seat labeled M. Keaton on the way out. (Was batman really there?) Walked out through a crowd of sharks around ben and gwen (actually I just saw the back of a large head talking into Paltrough's ear, and I assumed it was affleck). Somehow I felt icky being amongst all the yearning people, so I just split and savored the movie on my way back to the old car.

T'was a swell evening.
Haven't been able to stop thinking about the movie. Will post a review as soon as I'm able.
Also I've been struck by the similarites between fame and faith. Hopefully some of yall will read my rant on that… when I get around to posting it.

Anyway. It was swell.
Kev smith fan for life? Just maybe. :][
Later.
