Hey Kevin,

I checked out the flick Saturday night at a 4-plex that mostly shows art-films. Many mainstream theaters out here are also showing Dogma (even on two screens), but I stood in line alongside the people buying their tickets for Lucie Aardvark. The theater was over half full, with most of the crowd looking like UCSD students, but a good number of older viewers as well.

Great movie. The religious material didn't connect with me as much as the relationship dialogue in Clerks and Chasing Amy, but the film was just as much fun. I enjoyed the fantastic characters and the intricate plot (don't listen to the critics who call it overly-complicated). I'll be back to see it again, and I'll drag some more people with me.

The audience seemed to enjoy it as well (I couldn't tell if anyone walked out, because I sat up front). There was a lot of laughing and discussion as people left. I think the length was well measured, because the audience seemed to be lulled by some of the lengthier exposition bits, but I can't wait for the DVD extras.

Three college age women sat behind me, and I expected them to be fawning over Ben and Matt, but they were all about Jay and the Bob. Whenever Silent Bob looked like he might be in trouble one of the girls would say in a high, pitying voice, "Oh no!.... Bob!"
