Lunchy,
I think it's great that you love 'Rats so much, but man, it's a fact of life...Mallrats flopped. You're the one who's WRONG. They thought it was going to be huge and it wasn't. They thought audiences would love it and they didn't. It's easy for you to say "if 500 people liked my movie, I'd think it was a success" because you haven't had a studio invest millions in on a film you wrote. You haven't invested a year of your life in a project that was savagely ripped to death by critics and spent less than a month in theatres. Mallrats wasn't a success for Kevin. Granted, Kevin admits that Mallrats is the most watchable Askew flick (I'd agree), but even he admits that it just didn't work out in the long run.
AND if you fully believe that "Kevin has control over everything" line, then why are you blaming the studio for the negative aspects of Mallrats and not him? Sure, the studio interfered, but it was still the film he created, he cut together, and he put out to theatres.
I admire your passion for the flick, but Mallrats was not the high point for View Askew. Sure hundreds of people loved the film, but millions didn't. In the end, it's a pretty damn funny movie with a mixture of great and really awful acting and a plot that is flimsy enough to serve its purpose.
It's not something terrible Kevin should be ashamed of, but it is something he might not want to mention when he's lining up investors for his next film.
And those are the facts, fresh outta my ass!
