Hiya folks.
Haven't read the board in a long time, but I saw on newsaskew that
Kev requested reports on the crowds this weekend, and thought I'd
drop by.
Well, to sum up, the crowds in Pittsburgh have been insane. It sold
out several shows opening night (largely due to extras trying to see
themselves. In fact, the lady in line right behind us was one of the
reporters in the front row at Cardinal Glick's press conferences).
When I went to see it again last thursday, the theatre was about a
third full. Also had a really nice conversation with an older couple
(around 65 I'd say) who absolutely loved the movie. So anyone who
says Kevin's humor only applies to disgruntled 20 somethings is
obviously wrong.
Anyways, crowds were also nuts this past Saturday. I was trying
to catch the new Bond flick, and Dogma sold out before both The World
is Not Enough, and Sleepy Hollow (though both of those sold out shortly
thereafter also, and we ended up just renting Dr. No). A friend of mine
who was waiting till this week to see Dogma to avoid the crowds, figuring
everyone would be seeing something else, was shut out of two showings
at another theatre. So here in the Burgh at least Dogma's still
growing strong.
Incidently, when I saw it on opening night in a packed house, the
theatre was dead quiet (excpet for the laughter) the whole time. I
think this it the first time I have seen a movie with a full crowd
in this town where I haven't heard a single shout out from someone
in the crowd.
Great work everyone. The best VA picture yet.
