Whatever you do, don't buy a piece of shit Panasonic. I made that mistake about 10 months ago, due to some good reviews I had read, plus the fact that they had such a good reputation with their VCRs. I figured if they do one video medium right, then surely they'll be dedicated to doing this new medium right. WRONG!!! About 6 months later, I came across information from several different sources about the optical pick-up units in Panasonic DVD players going bad after a period of several months to a year. Just last week it finally happened to me. Started having problems with severe pixellation, chapter skips, layer change problems, shit like that. Hell, there are a couple of discs I have that it won't even read anymore. Fortunately, the thing is still under warranty and I won't have to pay for the repairs, but damn what a hassle!
