I think him adapting someone else's work would fall under the same umbrella as him directing someone else's script. Basically, I don't see it happening. I can imagine him scripting one of those for another director, though.
To be honest, I'm imagining writing screenplays as one of the things he'll probably continue doing after that big #10 (or 7, whichever it turns out to be). It's pretty good money.
