Hello all,
Just wanted to pop in and say I thought Dogma was a fantastic movie! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I sincerely wonder what all the 'controversy' fuss was about. Jay and Silent Bob were awesome. I will probably see it again this weekend to catch the stuff I missed, not to mention to enjoy a cool flick over again.
I had an aside for you. A friend of mine is a Catholic Priest. I don't really consider him 'a priest' in the usual sense because I've known the boy since he was ll (we're 32 now). I consider him more my old buddy with whom I used to peep at pilfered Playboys.
Anyway, he mentioned where he saw some Catholic publications that warned against seeing Dogma and also urged people to spread the word against the film. I asked if the 'reviewer' had even seen the film since this conversation took place a couple weeks ago. He replied "I don't know." I asked if he was going to see it, he replied
"Nope, I heard the hero works at an abortion clinic. That can't be good."
This from a guy who saw "Boogie Nights" with me. An spirited discussion then ensued. He and I have very, very different beliefs and that always leads to very cool exchanges.
Anyway, this morning I gave him my take on the film, and mentioned that the movie is very, very good and that he should go see it and make a determination for himself if it is blasphemy or something. I urged him to see it first and foremost because it is entertaining, but also because the film brings up some very cool and thought provoking ideas about faith, religion, and Catholicism.
Thanks a lot for the great films, guys! I also wanted to give some kudos on your work on the board and websites. Very impressive!
Today was my first time hitting the board and the View Askew websites, I think I'll hang around a while.
Talk to ya later,
