Finally---as an Irish-Italian Boston Catholic (and folks, it don't get much more Catholic then that) I want to say almost all the other IIBC's I know like DOGMA. The only complaints I've heard were about the violence and language, not the religous content.
And, a seventy-year-old Catholic priest I'm accquainted with who saw Dogma and enjoyed it, agrees with the theory that Bartleby and Loki got into heaven. Loki died as a human, and blameless: all the things he did earlier were as an angel, but he did'nt commit any sins after cutting off his wings, plus he did try to stop Bartleby, so there is the martyr factor to take into account. Bartleby, meanwhile, clearly repented his sins upon being in God's presence, and realizing how selfish and destructive he'd been. And that's all a catholic needs to do, is just say, "I'm sorry."--make a confession of their fallibility and admit their desire for transendence.
