I'm pretty sure he shot neagtive film...reversal is almost useless if you want any type of distribution for your film. I also vaguely remember reading somewhere (I think it was in FILMMAKER magazine back when CLERKS came out) that he had rented three film lights, which I'm sure he used in combination with the flourescent lights in the Quik-Stop. By the way, he could only have done that with a black-and-white film: film lights and flourescent lights have different color temperatures. If Kevin had shot CLERKS in color with the same combination of lights, it would have turned out either all orange (if he color-balanced for the flourescents) or green (if he color-balanced for the film lights).
I imagine for CLERKS 2 (assuming he shoots it in color), he and Dave Klein will either use all film lights and not use the store's flourescents at all, or if he does use the flourescents, he'll have them replaced with special flourescent lights that have the same color temperature as the tungsten film lights. He'll have the budget to do either one of these now.
But I'm just guessing. I'm an editor, not a DP.
