: Vincent,I read your reaction to that dudes post about Kevin helping you out on your movies. You were, to put it mildly, very upset that someone would even think of the thought of Kevin helping you. I understand the way the guy wrote it it was a low blow and agree with your anger towards it, but........can you say you have never been jealous of Kevins success? Now wait before you tear me a new asshole hear me out. Kevin was said many times that it was you that pursued him into making Clerks. That you were the one into the movie stuff and not him. What I'm saying is that do you ever wished that you had directed Clerks and had Kevin write the script? In fact, wouldn't that seem to be the logical choice back then? But I will add that it is a mark of your good character that you still back Kevin 100% and don't ask for hand outs when you know Kevin would be more then happy to give it you. I commend you for striking out on your own film career on your own 2 feet rather then on Kevin's back (although a little boost once in a while wouldn't hurt).
: I hope that didn't come off as assholish. I'm not trying to start any shit. I think its a valid question, if somewhat dated one(I'm sure if you ever were jealous of Kevin's success that you have since gotten over it), and one I hope you will answer truthfully.

To be absolutely truthful, it's impossible to be surrounded by as many successful people as I am who I am close to (not just Kevin anymore, but also Brian Lynch, a friend of mine for a few years longer than kevin) and NOT have it effect you, especially when said success is in a field that you yourself have always strived to be in. Now, I don't know that I've ever been "jealous" per se, but yes, there have been times when I've said to myself, "Man, how much longer do I have to wait?" Then I step back and realize that I was the one who took three years to write my currect screenplay :-)
As for directing CLERKS, no, it didn't make sense to me to do so, because it was Kevin's baby and, quite frankly, comedy just isn't my thing. When Kevin made CLERKS at age 22 I gave myself a personal ultimatum that I'd direct my first film at 22 (I was 20 when CLERKS was made), and two years later I was directing A BETTER PLACE so I reached my goal. My new goal is to be directing AUTOGRAPH by mid-to-late 2000, and I'm sure, now that I have the script done, I'll be able to reach that goal.
