I watched Clerks again recently and something about Randal's rant at the end has stuck with me. He rages at Dante for blaming everyone else for his problems and then goes off on a tangent about the cashier superiority complex, where clerks like himself and Dante tend to put themselves on a pedastal and look down on the customers, thinking themselves to be better, not realizing the self-delusion involved. Coming from him, a man steeped in his resentment of customers, proudly so, doesn't that seem a wee hypocritical? And to specify Dante, who has consistently given the customers the benefit of the doubt, as having a holier-than-thou attitude just makes Randal seem even more the hypocrite. Maybe Kevin felt that the words would have more meaning coming from Randal than they would from Dante, but this 180 seems a tad far-fetched for the character. Anyone have any insight on this?
