As a 24 year old semi-practicing Catholic, I felt that Kevin Smith's writing couldn't have been more indicative of the modern Catholic experience. I spent my entire childhood in Catholic school, and lived in a household in which Catholic tradition and ritual were the most important parts of our lives.
I love the Catholic faith in that I find it historically rich and dignified. I don't ever see myself practicing any other faith, when I make the decision to begin "practicing" my faith at all.
I despise cartoonish depictions of the Catholic faith in films. I resent films, I mean "movies" such as Stigmata or End of Days that distort the Catholic faith and only use the Catholic religion as a storytelling mechanism because it is "old" and "creepy" oh and "visually rich." The Catholic Church should thank Kevin Smith, and maybe even listen to what he is trying to say in Dogma. I think that maybe they could better understand the confict that all Catholics go through at some time in their lives.
