: This is a question I've asked before, but I'm always interested in new opinions (You know...unless you're a retard or somethin'):
: OK, the Clerks Animated Series. Sure, we all know the language will be toned down. Of course. No big deal there. The thing I'm wondering about is...how will ABC handle our two favorite drug dealers, Silent Bob and Jay? I mean, they're minor league dealers who are funny, sympathetic, and kid-friendly. (I only say that because we know kids like to laugh when they see Jay's pee-pee.) Will ABC make Kevin play down the "dealer" angle? If they do (and I hope they don't)... what the hell will Jay and Bob do all day? Will they be turned into the stereotypical, SuBuRbIa (fucking Bogosian) slackers who hang out in front of the 7-11 because they have nothing else to do? I know ABC can't advocate drugs to the masses, but I'm a bit confused on what exactly Jay and Bob's role will be on the show.
The weed is only one of several possible complications with J&SB and ABC. The bigger picture which I just can't get my brain around is Jay on primetime network TV. Dante & Randal I can see. They aren't vulgarians. They just occasionally DISCUSS vulgar topics (sucking 37 dicks, trying to suck your own dick, hermaphroditic porn, etc.). They don't constantly pepper their each and every discussion with "fuck" and "shit" and the like, but are actually quite eloquent. I see their conversations on the series following the 'innocent contractors blown up on the Death Star' bit in the film; banter that is, in a word, "Seinfeld-esque". But JAY?! Has the guy ever said ANYTHING in any of the four films that would fly on network TV? This guy IS defined by his vulgarity. His whole life revolves around pussy and weed, and in the rare instances that he is not dwelling on those two topics, he is usually slamming somebody in the most profane ways possible. I really can't see Jay being the same character if he is made ready for primetime. Bob, sure; in the rare instances that he does talk, he almost always keeps it clean. But not Jay. It will be interesting to see if Kev can tone Mewes down AND keep him real.
But no question, the dealing is out. Jay and Bob are about to become a pair of Buffs (hmm, maybe Zahn *could* have played Jay).
