Hi. I'm relatively new to the board. I've lurked for well over two years now, and posted quite frequently a long time ago (before you had to register) under the name "Corey."
View Askew has definitely had an impact on my life. Kevin's four flicks have inspired me; I want to be a screenwriter more than anything in the world. When I saw "Clerks," I saw the light. It came to understand that you don't have to be in California to be successful in film. Kevin just seemed to be an "everyman" to me. His dedication to the fans by posting on this board seems to reiterate that. He's very successful, but it seems that success hasn't made him into a snobbish person like a lot of people in the biz. Now I've written three very good screenplays (in my opinion) and I have no idea where to go with them. How to get them out there. Thankfully, since I have no clue how to get involved in the biz, I am a Computer Science student at the University of Georgia. A good major to fall back on if the writing thing doesn't work.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to get started? I write mostly dark comedies (if anyone would like to read one, email me). Do I need an agent? And is there a "correct" format out there to use? I've seen screenplays written in several different formats, but is there one that is correct?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Corey
