As a past and current comics reader, my opinion on the low sales of comics is simply that a lot of comics just aren't that good, or at least not good enough to pluck down (at least) $2.00 an issue. In my prime comic-buying days (1986...post-Crisis DC...awesome time to be into comics) I was buying an average of six books a week. Now if I buy three, it's considered a lot. Last week I bought none.

Now it could very well be that my tastes have changed in 13 years....maybe I expect more from the superhero titles than the comics companies are willing to give. Which is why I buy so few of them. (Right now the only superero titles I really buy are JLA and STARMAN....though I am giving the new SUPERMAN titles a look-see.) As I got into college, my tastes ran more towards the Alan Moore/Neil Gaiman school, of which there is a lot less these days. Moore is doing superhero and genre parodies, which are fun, but don't have the meaning of his SWAMP THING and WATCHMEN. And Gaiman just doesn't write too many comics anymore.
