I found a site (Wizard, maybe? Marvel?) that had preview art for DD up. It was the penciled and inked version of the cover to DD#1. Along with the art, they had a link saying, "Tell Joe what you think!" And it was a link to Joe's email addy. I said the art looked great, yada yada. The point is I actually got a 2 sentence response from Joe! He took the time to answer my little fanboy message. I knew that I had to keep buying DD after Kevin was done, just cuz Joe Quesada cared enough to respond.
