As a reporter, we deal with copyright infringement and trademarked crap all the time. As far as I know, (or can remember from my journalism ethics class in college) if you are simply drawing reference to KS's films, you should be ok. You can mention something and even steal a quote or two without having to worry. For example in Dogma, when Silent Bob throws Loki and Bartleby off the train and turns to the passenger and says "No Ticket" I don't think they had to contact the writers of Lost Crusade to use that line. However, if you are using any copyrighted material or taking whole speeches or content, then you might have to go through legal channels and ViewAskew would get some royalties, depending on how much or how little you use. My experience is only in the world of print journalism so don't take my word on it because I'm not sure if these rules translate equally into film making, but that is what I know. good luck.
