A dorky question.

But now that I'm all kept up with the Jones' with my Christmas booty of a DVD player, I find that the inclusion of "deleted scenes" factors heavily into my decision on buying one DVD over another. I have to imagine that I'm indicative of some demographic on this point...

Is there any thought, in this post-DVD world, of filming scenes that are *explicitly meant* to get deleted form the final cut, but add value to a DVD purchase?

If so, then the bootleg/release of the Dogma script & the Fat Albert Scene/extended shit monster stuff generated a goodly amount of "hype" about deleted scenes, by informing the die-hard fans of their existence long before the movie's release. I'm sure that in this case, this is a happy accident but...

I mean, scenes get cut from movies for a whole host of reasons... Time considerations, relevance to the plot, pacing, etc.. (Although, not, apparently, in a movie that shall remain nameless, he said, putting his shoulder into flaying the long dead and now putrefied horse) And they are a natural by-product of filmmaking, right? But do you think especially considering your fans "need" to know the "inside scoop," that you might film scenes that you *know* are not needed, just so you could get a kick-ass, beefed up DVD?
