: well, although it would be cool to see, that's not really the reason for this post ...::
Kevin in two rounds. Kevin wouldn't hit him,he'd just make fun of him so much that PTA would kill himself.
: I would really appreciate some help with this... i need some volunteers to answer the following interview questions for a project i am working on. I would really like to have Vin or Kev answer them, and I also need to have some regular posters answer them too...::::::::::
I was an extra in a movie.Plus, I shot a shortfilm. And I have been in the newspaper before, a few times for sports and a few times in the blotter,so I guess I can help.
: I know its not as exciting as most of the banter around here, what with all of the Mallrats 2 noise, but I would really like to get some info considering that i have chosen the Askew WWWboard as the topic of my paper on celebrity status.:::::::::
Mallrats Two would be a mistake of Titanic proportions. I hope to God he doesn't do it. The more I think of it, the more it is career Hari Kari.
: 1. If you had to choose a celebrity (preferably a director) that has influenced you the most in your life, who would you choose?::::
Celebrities really don't influence me. Historical figures do. And I guess they were celebrities at the time, though you see scrolls talking about whether Genghis Khan had an eating disorder because he was too small. Leonidas,Charlemagne,Brian Boru,Genghis,Kublai,M.Collins,Saladin, the big JC, Gandhi, St.Thomas More, St.Beckett,St.Columbanus etc..etc. There are a bunch. There are some celebrities I like. Kevin Smith,Liam Neeson,Tom Morello,Bruce Lee and Michael Jordan. I also have a list of personal Heroes, usually the number falls at 7, but that's between me and my Calvins. And Sharon Stone taught me that I should always wear underwear or Paul Verehoven will look at my snatch.
: 2. In what ways did this person influence you (ie: when where you first introduced to their work, when did it first effect you and your goals, and in what
: ways does it do so?) Describe the situation to the best of your ability.:::
Liam Neeson proved to everyone that the stereotype of the Irish is that they are emotional and stupid when they are emotional. The whole short dick thing is Asian. Kevin Smith and Bruce Lee showed me that effort equals success,no matter if you are from Hong Kong or Red Bank. Morello shows you can suceed with principals and Jordan just kicked major ass. People yak about Wilt, but Wilt was playing in a time when there wasn't the competiton todays NBA has. And Jordan slaughtered everyone. Jordan had 6 rings,Wilt has 1. Game ova.
: 3. How would you best describe this director's representation as a celebrity? (Bear in mind that the term celebrity is not necessarily referring to their status as
: a star, but rather their image perceived by the public and this individual's fans):::::::::
I think Kevin Smith, unless it is a facade for the board and he is secrelty an evil bastard of Blofeld proportions, has stayed the same for the 3 years I've hung around here. He is also extremely nice to his fans, which is hard some times because fans by definition are needy, and I respect him for it. I think now, however, with the Mallrats 2 thing, he is being too nice. He is seeing how vocal the Mallrats fans are on the board and at ComicCons and he is forgetting that Mallrats just wasn't very good compared to his other stuff. And the fact that he brings his buddies around here to also answer Q's is nice. Most Celebrities I have met are jackasses. They start beliving the hype and only realize they are assholes until E! or VH1 are doing trashy Bio-Shows on them.
: 4. In what ways are this director's role of celebrity manufactured and marketed toward his/hers audience?:::
I think this board helps him. It helps foster a core of fans and also helps him in the pocketbook via the Stash. We must remember,he has two kids to feed. Harley and Mewes.
: 5. In what ways do this individual's marketed traits appeal to you?::
I was chubby when I was younger, I played hockey, I have been known to fire off the occassional witty barb. On the other side, I don't have two kids, I'm stuck in college for two more years and I don't get regular sex. So Kevin is higher on the foodchain.
: 6. Do any of these traits disgust you, or taint your image of the individual in any way?::
I don't know enough about him as a person to say whether he is bad. All I see is what is shown and he seems cool.
: 7. What do you feel are important duties of an individual in a celebrity status?::
None. They are people, if they fuck up or have foibles, its because they are human. We deify celebrities now because we have abandoned the principles society started with. Its unfair to the celebrities and to ourselves. Still,If I saw Brittany Spears, I'd get all excited and try and cop a feel.
: 8. How do you define celebrity, personally?::
Someone who has a specific talent that was nurtured, through effort or luck, and has led them to a media spotlight.
: 9. What was your first major project released, and how has it's reception adjusted your role as a celebrity?::
My extra movie isn't out yet. And I beat the rap on the blotter thing. Represented my self and beat the prosecuter. You say the man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client? Not when you are the smooth motherfucker I am.
: 10. Has the inception of this celebrity role affected your work in any way?:::
I'm hoping the Extra in the movie thing will get me laid more. And I'm thinking of taking a theater class.
: 11. How has your own role as a celebrity (within your own filmmaking endeavors and/or through your participation on the Viewaskew Web Board) been a
: product of construction; proved a profitable marketing tool?:::
I used all my own stuff for my short flick, so I didn't lose or make squat.
: 12. How has your role as a celebrity affected your personal life and your relationships with fans?::
Again, hoping I get enough status to receive more and higher quality feminine interests
: 13. Are their any aspects of celebrity status that have discouraged you, or garnered a negative influence on your role as an individual?::
A few guys wanted to kick my ass over the crime thing, and because my short movie was a tad ribald, but I enjoy fighting, it feeds the neanderthal part of my brain. By the way, someone remind me to go to the HSX and sell all my Big Punisher stock pronto.
: 14. What is your take on the notion that any individual can attain a celebrity status? :::
Pretty much true, but talent keeps you there. John Bobbit got his cock cut off and he was famous for awhile.
: 15. In what ways does this web board help create celebrity status for both the filmmakers that frequent it, and the posters that post here?::
Posters? No. Most of them are mongoloids with very few worthy of respect. Lynch and Vinnie probably get some pub from this group,so it helps them. And I bet HolyToads could get some ass, especially from Hawkboy,if Toads was so inclined. Hawky would give a nut to come back.
: 16. Does the formation of internet based celebrity status rely solely on the inclusion of an already publicly known celebrity? (in other words, is it the fact that
: Kevin Smith is involved with the discourses found on the web board that makes it easier for any poster to harbor a celebrity-like status on the board?):::
Harry Knowles has some celebrity and he was a nobody 5 years ago. In my opinion,he still is. But people seem to enjoy the tremendously fatfuck. So The Internet can make celebrities, but its rare. Public Knowledge is needed 99.9% of the time.
: 17. In what ways has the function of the board changed since its inception? What were the contributing factors to this change?:::
Before,it was like a big streetfight. Anyone could post. Flaming like San Francsico on a hot day. Now its more civil. I've personally had to cool my incindiary brand of humor so as to not get kicked off. Its kinda nicer now.
: 18. How does the media perceive the web board in regards to celebrity status? Do you agree with this interpretation of the board?::
Kevin said a few things about PTA and all the sudden EW and Newspapers were carrying stories about Kevin calling PTA a big stupid fuckface.
: once again, I really appreciate this!
: thanks!
: Mario
Them's alot of questions, Mario.
