I meant I thought I remember reading Jason Lee had a deal with Airwalk in his pro-skater days, and if those shoes were ones that were named after him or something -- before he became an actor.
: I'm not sure if there was a deal with Airwalk or not.....but there could well have been. However, I can say that my soundtrack came with an offer to win a pair of shoes identical to Brodie's from the film. So it looks like there was a deal going with the film and those shoes, if not with Jason Lee himself.
: I like your idea of a Mallrats prequel.....a lot can be done with that. But there is also more to be done after the film as well. Read the articles of the opening credits of Chasing Amy. Brodie walked from the Tonight Show in time. It's also funny that you mention the archie gags and so forth, as a lot of the material from Chasing Amy was shelved material from Rats. (It's all in the Mallrats DVD with commentary) For anyone that has not seen it, it is a @#$%&% MUST!!
Yeah I heard that in the commentary, all I recall them mentioning was when Hooper from the chicken stand (Something from the chicken stand or other food court place man, cookies just dont cut it), coming over to talk about sexual injuries. I really don't think it seems right doing a sequel to mallrats, I mean if the guy was on the tonight show you can't really touch on that and have it relate to the story -- he would be like too old.

: : The original Mallrats was awesome, much so because Jason Lee is awesome and played the part of Brodie perfectly. I'd have to say though that the first movie pretty much wrapped up the lives enough for the original characters (T.S. and Brandi getting married, Brodie hosting the tonight show, Shannon becoming a prison bitch, etc.), but the possibility of a "Prequel" or something could work, or at least highlighting Brodie's escapades (other people have mentioned it), or a whole new set of characters (With a definite Brodie-inspired one), but still in the Mall aspect.
: : Two things I think Mallrats was missing;
: : first, I don't think they used enough settings that are commonly associated with a mall. They spoke of the food court, used the cookie stand and the pet store, but they neglected other commonplaces such as Arcades and Theatres -- even things they have now of PC or Console video game tournaments that tour malls (It really does happen, big prizes too). I can just see a whole segment on a Brodie-like character winning 1000$ in an NHL2000 Tournament :).
: : secondly, they didn't really have any re-occuring skits (bad terminology, I mean like the Racism in Comic Books thing or hte Archie is gay thing -- both in Chasing Amy). Those are tremendously funny and those two segments from Amy I mentioned are two of the funniest things in any of the View Askew films since. Anyway, I'm just offering my half assed suggestions, I dunno if they are any good or anything.
: : Oh and also, my question about Brodie. I never saw anything addressing this in the WWWBoard summaries, but I remember reading (or I hallucinated a memory, its happened :) that Jason Lee had a shoe deal with Airwalk when he was a pro-skater. Are the shoes that Brodie is wearing (the unique airwalks with the @ looking characters) shoes that were named after Jason Lee when he was with airwalk? Just wondering :) Sorry if its been asked before -- this is my first post :)
