I think it was because God was in human form.
In a human body, God can converse with humans, only she didn't because the Metatron was there and they had to justify his presence somehow.
If that doesn't make sense, think about all the poor skeeball attendants she must have talked to! There would be a trail of mutilated corpses at skeeball houses across the globe.
