Why they can't just be Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Fincher?
I'm getting sick of all this comparison stuff. Directors direct differently, and it's obvious that one won't like the other's work sometimes, if only for the reason that they didn't direct it.
I like to think that Kevin is better than that, and simply disliked Magnolia because he didn't like the movie, not because of PTA. He's stated many times that he liked Boogie Nights, so he doesn't "hate" PTA, just Magnolia, and hate is a pretty strong word.
I think the whole "bad blood" thing is a journalist's wet dream that doesn't actually exist. A journalist can take creative liberties with a director's comments about another director and make them sound like Stone Cold talking about Vince McMahon. I've seen it happen, and you probably have too. It happens in schools as well, where one kid hears something and tells someone else, who tells someone else, and so on and so forth until you end up ten feet tall and shooting lightning bolts out of your ass.
Basically, all I'm saying is this: Don't believe all that you hear.

I didn't heed my own advice once, and I got into massive trouble...It wasn't pretty.
