In addition, Tarantino had not had his breakout success which "revolutionized Independent film" until that same year that Clerks came out. They both showed at festivals that year. All QT had done so far had been Reservoir Dogs, which while very good, was just one movie, and did not do much for the industry or help Quintin make a name for himself. So Tarantino was relatively unknown at that time. He did not yet earn recognition for paving the way.

: that he doesnt like Q.T.? Q is a dork, kevin is a dork, its what makes there movies great! As for not thanking him forpaving the indy way, well I think that the others listed did alot more to pave the way I.E. being around long before Q.T. was. I think they are pretty much the second wave.

: : Okay, I guess QT got pulled into this because in John Pierson's book (Spike, Mike, Slakers, and Dykes) Kevin Smith sounded like he thought Tarantino was dork when he asked Kevin why was wasn't thanked at the end of Clerks like Spike Lee, Jim Jarmuch, etc. for "paving the indy way". Also on the Boogie Nights DVD commentary Paul Thomas Anderson sounded annoyed when he remarked that people had compared him to Tarantino.
