: Do you think it's a worthwhile endeavor to pursue doing a 'Mallrats' sequel at Dimension?
: Before you leap, here's the rationale:
: 1)'Mallrats' - while not brilliant - never got it day in the theatres, thanks to the worst marketing efforts money could buy afforded by Gramercy (Steve excluded)
Some people also thought it was a sell-out flick. I re-educate the ones that have been given this misconception (sometimes with a large stick if necessary *grin*).
: 2) There is a huge fan-base for the film now, thanks to home video
: 3) I'm getting close to shutting down the View Askewniverse permanently, in favor or making more diverse, less Jay-and-Bob type flicks, so this would be one of the last of the bunch
This would be a huge shame indeed. If you do however, give all the information stored here to a fan site. It'd be a HUGE waste for all this work and effort to go down the drain.
And I know I speak for pretty much everyone I know that watches your films that we would find it a great loss in our lives if you were shut things down.
: 4) And while it may not be any great leap forward artistically, it might be a lot of fun (the true reason to do anything).
Fun is always good. Many things are not worth it unless it's fun (and I could see movie making being one of these).
I think for me though, to "hit the point" so it speaks, mebbe you should be looking at a movie whose central plot totally revolves around Jay and Silent Bob only (Dogma is close, but not totally). Now I know that'd could be difficult, but if you want to hit the mark, I personally think that is where it'd be. This doesn't preclude it from being called Mallrats 2, but it does change the focus from the original.
It'd also be a tribute to all those Jay and Silent Bob fans to go out with a big bang! (This does not mean we want you to blow Jay and Silent Bob up in the movie!)
Take care Kevin. Whatever you do, we'll be watching! (Not literally.. and we didn't plant a camera in your toilet - I swear!)
