What was BJ and the bear? There was an American series shown several years ago, in England, called Gentle Ben which was about a kid living in the everglades with his park ranger father and ..er ..a bear. I don't think they ever explained why they would want to keep a man eating bear in the garden shed - he was just there. Every episode was same. Boy gets in trouble with evil hunters. Bear saves the day. Could this be the same show?

I think Gentle Ben was my favourite of the kid + beast adventure shows. Even if Skippy, Lassie and Flipper all teamed up they'd be no match for Ben. He'd win every time, paws down.

PS. Gentle Ben was prematurely ended mid-series when the bear ripped off the little boy's arm and mauled a camera man.
