: ...so therefore the show's a failure already? Cos that's what's being :said. Defeatist attitude, man.
Not saying its a total failure, but he's fighting an upward battle. The air date is speed bump, that may or may not impede the show's success. So why should he not be upset at this?
: "traditionally... can be detrimental... may not be there.." Like I say - :conventional wisdom is not accepted fact, and it doesn't mean shit. TV :execs are wrong every time a TV show is a hit. Every time you hear about a :movie that does well, you can bet there's one exec who turned it down :along the way because he followed the conventional wisdon route. It's not :over till it's over.
Not saying its accepted fact either. But probability IS a fact, and Kev has to play the game with shitty odds. Sure he could still win, but the air date makes it THAT much harder.
: Look, TV is free, movies you have to get off your ass to go see and :renting takes effort too. The movies already have fans who will watch the :show, so the figures don't start at zero, and they'll only go up, unless :the show's no good. I use Europe as an example of how far the buzz :is buzzing.
And I concur.
: Exactly. How much buzz can there be for a show that hasn't aired yet? :Check out Empire Online, the UK movie website, and you'll see Clerks :Cartoon mentioned on the headlines page - it's already been printed in the :magazine last month. I'd say that was at least some buzz. The advert was :aired during superbowl - also buzz.
There's a difference between 'buzz' and mere advertisements. 'Buzz' occurs when there is great anticipation for the work, such as with the Blair Witch Project.
: It (Dogma) could have done better... right, so the fact that it didn't :rake in billions means that Kevin got fucked by Disney? Horseshit.
Did I say that? no. I said if Disney didnt abandon the flick, he could've done a LOT better.
:Profit is profit, the opposite of no profit, and that's the only thing :that matters to the cash boys.
Uhm, go take an accounting class or something, because you seem to not realize that the 'cash boys' would prefer a large profit instead of a small one.
:"If Disney didn't back down..." yeah and if, if, if... Dogma didn't need :Disney, it made the money. And you never see ads for stuff after they've :opened unless they're dying and need to make more money. That's the point :of the ads.
Like I said, it made a good deal of cash, but it could've done more. And PLENTY of flicks have ads running WEEKS after they're in theaters. Come to the US sometime, and you shall see.
: Nothing has been sabotaged, it's a minor setback. Are you saying that :people don't watch TV during the summer? That all summer-released shows :fail?
Okay, 'sabotaged' was an exxageration. I didn't say people don't watch TV during the summer (where did you read that?!?) I said the viewing audience is MUCH smaller. And I didnt say all summer-released shows fail (stop making shit up), but the majority do. And it sucks that Kev has to play the odds.
:No, it's all based on TV exec figures and projections which are pointless :until the results come in. I say wait until people start turning off :before complaining. And while the timeslot is not ideal and that it may :well be upsetting, I sincerely doubt that it's as over as you all think it :is.
I don't think its over, but I think there's a higher chance that it WILL over.
: It was never gonna be the new "Friends" in the first place. People will :still watch. At least it's still gonna be aired. How many shows die :without even that?
That's cool and all, but it would be even cooler if the show didn't die at all.
: People already know it's out there, and we're not as dumb as studios :think we are.
And that is why european shit like 'who wants to be a millionare' is imported here? And since people ARE watching said piece of shit, I think the execs are right on target with the intellectual level of the majority.
