: Regarding your thoughts of doing a Mallrats sequel, wanted to put my two cents in, for what it's worth (and two cents ain't much, brother.) I'll preface my remarks to say I think "Clerks" rates as one of the funniest comedies EVER. Not even sure I could think of another flick that had as many tears of laughter streaming down my face (and for that, I'm forever your cellblock bitch). Chasing Amy? A far deeper film, not just balls-out laughs, but brilliant nonetheless. One of the five best of the '90s. But even as your bootlicking slave, I must tell you what I'm sure you already know, that Mallrats was the weakest of the four (and yes, Laserboy, I have the Director's cut of "Amy" wherein you lay out some of the problems you encountered with studio mannequins disguised as creative executives). So my first and strongest reaction to you considering this move is that you feel like you want a second shot at it, to "do it right this time". However, I quote your own words back to you, from the immortal Dante. "Sometimes, you just gotta let those hard-to-reach chips go." Move on, you're too creative and smart to set yourself up for that fall, and it's probably a mix of your Catholic guilt (I have it too, relax) at what you perceive as at least a partial failure, and low self-esteem that you feel you have to "right a wrong." Forget it, have fun, and move onto something else. And as much as I'll miss them, you're probably right to start phasing out Jay and Silent Bob. Let them go out on top, so they don't end up like fucking Waylon Flowers and Madam, a tired old wheeze of an act that's more played out than your mother's snatch. (Sorry, man, just invoking Jay's name brings out the worst in me.)
: Good luck in whatever decision you make, and thanks for the many hours of laughs.
