There's a reason places like Hong Kong, Thailand, and Iran have an almost 0% crime rate. It's because if you do something illegal....you're fucked!
Even if you didn't do anything, and just happened to be in the wrong place...you could be fucked.
There is no "temporary insanity", because people in HongKong make damn sure not to lose their heads. Because if they're caught, they just might literally lose their head.
The American appeals process is too bloated...and the technical mis-trials that occur are far too rampant. When Jeffrey Dahmer was caught, there should have been a gun to his head right after his trial and BANG! He's guilty, case closed. But it was actually the inmates that gave ol' Jeff his due.
People need to see swift judgment and consequences to their actions.
As it is now, our criminals are superstars. They wouldn't be so glamorous laying in a heap of their own blood and bile.
At the radio station I work at, we played the new song by the Dixie Chicks "Goodbye Earl" about a woman killing her abusive husband and getting away with it. (it was on the Grammy's last night) We actually had redneck hick motherfuckers call in saying how outraged they were, because "if it was a man killing a woman, everyone would protest".
God I love Texas.
