The face you talk of is actually seperate from the pyramids.

The only reference I was able to find on the mars pyramids were at: http://www.well.com/user/etorun/pyramid.html
however it only showed one. I've seen pics where it shows three 'pyramids' that are identical to the lay out of the pyramids at Giza.
Aliens? Who knows. I'd say the best proof we could get either way is to drop a mars lander smack dab in the middle of the face or pyramids.
