: Maybe Kevin wasn't questioning Christ, His life, His accomplishments, or the Church's views of Him. It seems like perhaps the focus on the way the Catholics, specifically them, anyway, seem to interpret the Bible as the literal word of God was enough. If there's no issue with Him, and assuming that the filmmakker holds His position in reverence, then how/why do we bring Jesus into the story? the 13th apostle? funny. the metatron? very human in so many ways. The Golgothan? Shitty. you don't do any of that to your spiritual leader. Maybe.
That would have been my first assumption, that Jesus is just too holy to put in that movie. But I don't know, I think JC is a funner guy than most people imagine. A lifetime of being called a bastard and toiling in a carpentry shop when you really want to be hanging out with your fishing buddies talking philosophy will give you a sense of humor.
Jesus is also the person/deity who's had the most dogma built around his name who would have least approved of that dogma. I would have been interested to see that character show up, but you make valid points.
: It just seems to me that if the issue at hand is not about Jesus, even if the story deals with christians, He needn't be overtly included.
Isn't it though? See my paragraph immediately above. Actually, I originally interpreted this movie as not about personal spirituality at all but about organized religion, in which case it makes perfect sense if Jesus doesn't play a part.
: PLUS (I'm shouting cause I'm just thinking of this as I'm typing) christ did get included, in a way. Bethany is pregnant at the end of the film, right? Who's she carrying, The Rock's next Wrestlemania opponent?
Oh, okay. I had forgotten that part. I just thought she and Chris Rock disappeared into the woods for a while and did a little cross-temporal bonding.
: And aren't I overlooking the seemingly obvious fact that Silent Bob is the Christ figure in all the RedBank movies? I mean, the way we all worship him....
True, but Silent Bob isn't really a martyr, is he? He does have plenty of disciples though. I worship Silent Bob, why not?
