Yes, that's how long I get before the HolyToad deletes my off-topic ass. So, without any further ado...
Let's play "WESTENDERS"!!!
The Background:
In the beginning, there was Spacey. Kidman followed, as did Dreyfuss. Then the floodgates opened. Christ knows why, but Hollywood celebs have a new goal - head to London and appear in a West End Stage play, wheterh to perk up or just plain reinvent their careers. Several have already gone for it: Kevin Spacey, Nicole Kidman, William H Macy, Stacey Keach, "Norm" from Cheers - and several have just arrived: Jason Priestley, Kathleen Turner, Edie Falco... and they're not the last, either (ex-cast members from Dallas are on their way - why? Why?). This is Sam Mendes' day job, and look what happened to him - it's hip.
The Rules:
So, I'm thinking this is a fad and I give it a year and no more. But who's to say we can't have some fun before 2001? Pick 10 celebs - any 10 celebs you like, there doesn't appear to be a pattern. If your celeb appears in a show in the West End of London, you score points. There are scoring variations, but essentially, it's like the Dead Pool - except no one dies (unless someone dies, but that's different).
The Scoring:
1 point for being in a show
2 points for being in a show that's also a film (Turner in The Graduate)
5 points for being nekkid in a show (Kidman, Turner - yes it's true)
5 points for being in the news in a non-show related incident
10 points for punching a photographer/causing a scandal
10 points for humping a local celeb (Priestley)
15 points for punching a member of Oasis (this is my dream, so not likely)
15 points for being in a show, failing, and flying home in a mood
17.5 points for being a celeb that's also starred in a VA Movie (yay, topicity!) - none have yet
More rules:
Now, I don't care what you've heard, what you know or who you've seen - your celeb only gets points when I find out they're here, and not until (nyaa, my game, my rules). This means I will either read it in a paper or see it on TV. English celebs ARE allowed, as long as they haven't previously made a habit of doing West End plays (eg: Jude Law - well, OK then; Sir Ian McKellern - sorry dahling, not a chance).
Now showing:
The celebs currently doing the rounds are:
Kathleen Turner getting jiggy in The Graduate
Jason Scott Lee being bald in The King And I
Jason Priestley and Edie Falco wondering what they're doing in Side Man
David Soul in some fucking comedy musical thing
Gary Sinise flying over the Cuckoo's Nest
RaLph Fiennes is dewin' Shakespeare (haven't decided if he counts yet)
Patrick Duffy, god help us, is on his way
There you go. Have fun now, and play nice. Email me your lists and I'll do my best to make sure no one cheats. You heard it here first. You can delete me when you're ready, Ben
