There are such things as rules in the sellthru industry, and if you break them there are sometimes major repurcussions.

Sometimes those repurcussions are in the millions of dollars, as with Titanic, other times they just take away your preferred seller status and limit your selection of new releases, as with the X-Files.

Things like this all factor into whether or not a company has enough leeway to sell or ship something a week before street date. Usually they don't.
