: doesnt that set up Alyssa as just "fucking" around while she is "gay", but falling in "love" when she is with a man?

Alyssa may well have been in love with one or more of the women she dated, fucked, saw, whatever, before she met Holden, and that would mean that she wasn't *just fucking* the women. And I wonder if it was as black and white as 'blah, blah, blah while she was gay'. I mean, did she necessarily have to be gay and then 'changed' when she found Holden? I mean, she says that being a lesbian was something that came naturally because she was attracted to women, because they were the ones she connected with emotionally. Getting sex wasn't the problem for her, finding fulfilling relationships was. I wonder if falling in love with a woman (with one's first woman, anyway) wasn't enough to make her forget that there might be a man with whom she could share similar feelings. I mean if all the men in her life were negative influences...

You know what? Since this is all hypothetical, I'm going to end the analysis right now. People make for great discussion and I often forget that movie charaters are not people. I hope I have added something to your consideration, anyway. Oh, how I miss writing challenging essays.
