C'mon. Where there's a will, there's a cliche. Or something like that. Although I can see that the attendant mess about the show and what you guys dealt with with the network is enough to sap the will out of you for it. There *is* a reason why Parker & Stone stay with Comedy Central.
I'm sure that if you *really* wanted to, a deal could be forged with HBO or some such thing, for appreciably less money but more creative freedom. Beyond that, garnering a "hip" buzz would be easier for HBO, after its sucess in backing SOPRANOS, OZ, SEX IN THE CITY(which my wife loves, but I cannot force myself to watch.) etc.
I know, the whole "what about HBO" arguement is deader than poor Jim Varney, but a brother can dream.
In any case, do you attribute a lot of the negative reviews that CLERKS the cartoon is getting as subtle fall-out from the whole brough-hah-ha (sp?) or do you think that it's a case of critics just not getting it? Some of the stuff written about the show seems arbitrarily mean, or over-harsh..The "holier than thou" attitude about a Challenger joke, or the implication that Randal's courtroom defense is cheap in its "racist" humor. That sounds like the fix was in, to my ears... If the show was not being "blackballed" the same jokes woul be evidence of your proven "edginess" and stuff.
But then again, I maintain that that there was not only a Grassy Knoll shooter, but also a guy on the triple overpass, and Woody Harrelson's father with a shotgun in Dealy Plaza, so you can take my opinion with a grain of NaCl.
: : I think the underestimate the power of KS' fans...and Clerks fans in general...I look for clerks to run a minimium of two years....just a feeling...
: It's a dead show, Mr. Kotter. Nothing short of Jesus Christ himself can revive it.
