COMICS!
This was Kevin's oppertunity to get to do a cartoon on television with a cast of already existing, well-liked characters without having to work under the constraints of DC or Marvel or anyone else (i'm sure i could say something about ABC here, but c'est la vie). Plus, Silent Bob and Jay (starting in Mallrats) have been sorta comic book characters anyway.
