*this post is part of an on-going series. Be the first to collect them all (...it's not as if Lucifer Lyndon Razoodock plans on being first...)*
For a cat who feigns ignorance when it comes to "visual style," Kevin Smith, unless I'm mistaken, has been a devotee of laser discs ever since...well, I'd imagine that it's been ever since he could afford one...
Why?
What about letter-boxing? Kevin generally prefers widescreen/letterbox to full-frame, does he not?
Now, back in the day when letter-boxing was the luxury of only a few wisened souls and their 12"-flip-over movie-platter discs, I found that I had to defend those television-cheating black-bars time and time and time again...
What about Kevin?
I'm also wondering about the other ViewAskewners. That Vincent would've been a part of the digital-revolution seems a no-brainer to me.
Was he, however, involved with turning Kevin onto laser discs?
Personally, I've been into laser discs since the mid-90s (when special editions tended to be especially sweet...if pricey) and always had a "wait-&-see" attitude towards the younger-upstart-format, DvD...
I was wondering what was behind the "Fuck DvD!!" sentiment...
Was there a sense that laser disc was the medium for discerning elitist film-geek?
...or what?
