DOGMA was also a personal story, moreso than Clerks and possibly even Chasing Amy. DOGMA had been his baby, Kev had had that script around since Clerks was being made, and it was the most personal to him. It dealt with his own personal crisis of faith and he recieved inspiration and influences with this picture from a variety of sources. He even made an effort to make the film look better than his previous ones in terms of visual style. He wanted this movie to be the best he could make it because it meant so much to him. Kevin has said as much. You can even look in the introduction to the screenplay for written proof.

: Alright, he probably won't read this, but I'll take the shit from everyone else on this board for posting a semi-serious message. I know the script is most likely done, or near done, but I ask that you take your own advice Kevin, and say something personal. Mallrats was funny as hell, and Dogma was a film (yes, not a "flick") that got you thinking about your faith.

: However, as I was listening to the Clerks soundtrack today, as I was leaving my friend's house slightly tipsy, I realized that both Clerks and, especially, Chasing Amy were different because of their highly personal nature. I related to both, C.A. more so of course (God damn fucked up failed relationship), and still feel a connection to both.

: I guess what I am getting at is that for a last film, in terms of the Jersey stuff, I hope that you end it on a personal note. To do it otherwise would cheapen it in my mind. While it is your creation and by that you can determine what is and is not right in its life span, I see these films as an expression of what you feel during the years that you created these films. To end this portion of your creative life in an "unpersonal" way, without saying much, would only cheat you of what has been an extremely thoughful creative process thus far.
