As a fledgling screenwriter myself it is a constant annoyance when people get the views of the characters I create confused with my own personal views. I've been accused of being a homophobe, racist, sexist, etc., all because those are the traights that I've given my characters within my screenplay. I have MANY gay friends (and a gay brother), MANY black friends, MANY "feminist" friends that have read my stuff. They all see that these are simply CHARACTERS, not ME. If he would have even bothered to watch the show (or the movie, for that matter) what's-his-name would know that Randal is a bit homophobic. This same territory was hit on with Chasing Amy, saying Kevin Smith was a homophobe because Alyssa just "became" straight. Same goes with that, if they would watch the movie they'd know she doesn't become ANYTHING except a girl in love with someone else. She got that feeling with a guy after she proclaimed she was gay, but that just says she was bi the whole time but she assumed she was gay because her attraction shifted to women exclusivly for a while. It's explained right there in the movie! It's frustrating when everyone thinks that every character speaking is you personaly when they're just a character you created to represent a facet of human society. The biggest frustration is that it was a play on the terminology of a different country versus our country. People need to learn to seperate a real person from the ones they create to tell a story.
