It's a regular cable channel. But a lot of cable companies won't bother with an "independent" movie channel. But if enough of their customers demand it, they might just get it.

Recently my local Media One pulled the IFC from their line-up. I called and complained. I told them that it was one of my favorite channels and that cable wasn't worth having without it. I gave them a couple of days to think about it, and then cancelled my service. Luckily, the other cable service (RCN) had IFC (and Ovation, and Sundance too!), and they were actually cheaper than Media One.

So talk to your cable company. And if you've got competetors in your area there is a good chance that you might be able to get IFC.
