The "boycott" was meant in jest. I may be a Kevin Smith fan, but I'm familiar enough with the fickleness of network television to not be surprised by their swift actions. ABC did the same thing to "Priest" a few years back. Networks dabble in fancy strictly for commerce; when one show doesn't live up to ratings expectations, or enough groups surface to protest, that show is summarily dismissed from the lineup.
"Clerks: The Cartoon" was doomed from the beginning. No one should be surprised it was cancelled, but that it was even aired at all. It could not exist on network television. I dunno; maybe ABC was looking for a "Simpsons"-type breakout hit, their contribution to a genre Fox currently has a stranglehold on now. Unfortunately, Mr. Smith wasn't willing to turn in a carbon copy. "Clerks" could never be "King of the Hill" or "The Simpsons" -- far too acerbic. When Kevin wouldn't allow ABC to carjack his booty, the network balked and chucked. I mean, look what they did to "Mallrats." Jesus Christ, Jason Mewes' mouth moved like a Leone Western. They didn't have the balls to keep "Clerks" on the roster.
Of course we'll never boycott television. How else will we watch our DVDs?
